A Memorable Summer of Tennis!

Four heat waves haven’t deterred GTC members from making the most of our six fantastic all-weather courts this Summer. As well as regular social play, there’ve been monthly American Tournaments – round robin doubles competitions with rotating partners. By popular demand, the Summer of 25 has also seen the introduction of Adult Tennis Camps (with pizza!) in addition to the usual Junior Tennis Camps.

And it’s not over yet. The last rounds of the Summer Championships are being played out, with Finals Day on September 27.

If you’re looking for a friendly tennis club to play social or competitive tennis, come and see us! Check out our reduced membership rates from August 1:    https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/GunnersburyTriangleTennisClub/Membership/Join

Wimbledon Winners – GTC style!

On the scorching Sunday of July 13, GTC hosted its own vibrant Wimbledon mixed doubles tournament, kicking off at 9:30am to beat the heat. Undeterred by the blazing sun, players brought their A-game, with four parent-child pairs adding a heartwarming twist to the competition. The courts buzzed with thrilling rallies, featuring two double-double knockouts, a flurry of deuces, sudden-death showdowns, and tie-breaks galore.

Isabel and Kryan triumphed over Jackie and Mikail in the main event, while Mimi and Hector clinched the plate from Sue and Andrew, all pairs earning well-deserved cheers. Frequent tea breaks kept spirits high, and as the day wrapped up, hot and weary players retreated to the cool shade of their homes to catch the Wimbledon final, capping off a memorable day of tennis and community.

Over £3700 for Cancer Research UK!

Our 4th Memorial Celebration Day, held each year to remember Club members, family and friends affected by cancer, has raised a fantastic £3732 for Cancer Research UK – a wonderful charity doing such good research for people with cancer today and in the future.  It was great to see so many members enjoying the family fun tennis and taking part in or watching some hard fought adult tennis, table tennis and pétanque during a lovely sunny afternoon.

It was a close run thing but, despite having different members each year, the orange team once again carried off the Paul Busfield Trophy. There were some delicious contributions to the cake baking competitions and Ben was Star Baker in the Junior Bake Off and Florence in the Adult Bake Off.

We are very grateful to everyone who gave so generously to Cancer Research UK,  donated books, photos, plants or sports kit for the stalls, or prizes for the tombola, or sponsored such brilliant prizes for the raffle, and to Debbie and team for organising the event.

Anyone who would still like to donate to Cancer Research UK can find us at https://www.justgiving.com/page/gunnersbury-triangle-sports-club-4

What a fantastic Open Day!

On a beautiful sunny day, GTC members welcomed dozens of  visitors to enjoy tennis, coaching for all ages,  table tennis, snooker and much more at our annual Open Day. The BBQ was as delicious as ever, as were all the homemade salads, tarts and cakes brought by our ever creative cooks and bakers. We were delighted that so many people took advantage of our very special Open Day membership offers but don’t forget there’s still 10% off most new member subscriptions.

They’re on their way to Wimbledon!

There were some highly competitive matches at the Play Your Way to Wimbledon tournament as members set their sights on reaching the national finals played on grass at Wimbledon. Congratulations to Elena and Lucy who won 7-5 against Anne and Isabel, and Henrik and James who won 6-2, 7-5 against Aadil and Maceij. They go through to  the county play offs and  hopefully on to Wimbledon!

Artists at work!

Our first ‘Paint and Sip’ evening was a great success as members swapped tennis racquets for paintbrushes and produced some brilliant artwork. Many thanks to Alice for organising and Florence and Katy for sharing tips and advice. Just shows we’re a welcoming tennis club and much, much more!
