Table Tennis teams poised for success in 2025!

Half way through the Table Tennis season, our three teams in the South and West Middlesex League have put in some strong performances.
In Division 1, the A team is second to old rivals, Oaks,  thanks to the eight members who have played for the team, with strong performances from new regulars Ryan and Louie alongside seasoned campaigners Geoff and Doug. Triangle B is top of  Division 2 after Oliver and Shashi played a great match to win against Oaks D.  Our C team has also put in some good performances under talismanic captain, Rocco, and could challenge for second place.
In the much bigger Wembley and Harrow League, our A team has achieved an impressive third place in the ultra competitive second division with Rafal and Marek both on a 70% win record. The B team has high hopes of moving up the table in Division 4 after Christmas!

Table tennis wins for GTC members

GTC’s Table Tennis members have been doing us proud – both in the South and West Middlesex League and in our own Summer tournaments. ‘A’ team players, Howard and Geoff recently collected their trophies at the League AGM. Although narrowly beaten by arch rivals NET Table Tennis Centre in the League, they clinched a dramatic final match victory against the same opposition in the Cup competition.

The last of the Summer’s Table Tennis tournaments at GTC was a team competition in which players were paired together to play singles and doubles matches. After a group stage, knockout games included some incredibly close matches (one going to 24-22) before arriving at a final pitting Louie and Alan (now in his 50th year as a section member) against Rocco and Ian. After another tight match going to the 5th set Rocco and Ian (right)  came out on top.

Congratulations to everyone who played in this and  other tournaments, and good luck to all our teams in the new season starting on 14 October. Find out more about our thriving Table Tennis section by contacting: [email protected]

Worthy winners on Summer Finals Day

Once again, there was some wonderful tennis on Summer Finals Day, with some highly competitive play for the 14 Club trophies and shields that were up for grabs. In the Women’s Singles, Pip and Tina went head to head, with Pip finally coming out on top (6-7, 6-3, 6-3) and, in the Men’s Singles, it was Rhodri who won through against Mikael (6-1, 6-4). All four Singles finalists were in action again in the Doubles Finals, with Tina winning the Women’s Doubles with Bridget against Ana and Judith (6-2, 4-2 retd), and Rhodri and Pip winning the Mixed Doubles against Mikael and Bridget (7-5, 6-4). The Men’s Doubles went to Peter and Mikael who beat Maciej and Aadil (6-3, 2-6, 6-1).

Congratulations to these and our other Adult Champions, Lee (Men’s Singles Shield), Katya and Bridget (Women’s Vets Doubles), Del and Polly (Supervets Mixed Doubles), Lee and Lyn (Invitation Doubles), Nick and David (Men’s Vets Doubles), and Katya and David (Vets Mixed Doubles), and to our Junior Champions, Casey (Under-18s Boys Singles), Talliah (Under-18s Girls Singles), and Ohka (Under-14s Singles).

Well done to all the runners-up for making it to the Finals against some tough opposition, and thanks to all those who came to support and helped to make it such a successful day.

Rosebowl more popular than ever!

The ever-popular Chittenden Rosebowl tournament attracted more members than ever this year, with 16 pairs including several new joiners, competing for the prized trophy, named after the Club’s founder, Henry Chittenden.

After the group stage of ‘first to win four games’, the knock out event gave us our worthy winners, with Joan and Peter beating Lizzie and Henrik in the final. The third place play off went to Rebecca and Ryan.

In the final of the Plate Event, Polly and Joe beat Wiebke and Fernando, and third place went to Keira and James.

Congratulations to everyone who played and made it such a fun, competitive afternoon!

Wimbledon Finals – GTC style

The GTC Wimbledon Tournament had all the excitement of the SW19 championships, and the tennis was pretty competitive too! Congratulations to the 2024 champions – Ana and James in the main event, Mary and Joel in the plate, and finalists, Yan and Del, Ingrid and Patrick respectively in the two competitions.

No to be outdone, our very own future champions showed off their skills earlier in the week!
