Sensational table tennis challenge goes to the wire!

Spectators were on the edge of their seats during last week’s sensational all-action Division 1 Return Challenge Table Tennis Match between GTC A and arch rivals NET TTC A!  Both clubs’ finest players fought long and hard for the honours while the audience sipped table tennis themed cocktails. Alas, NET TTC A won the night, 6-4. But there’s always a next time. Many thanks to both teams for giving everyone such an entertaining evening!

GTC has a thriving table tennis section, with eight teams playing in the two local leagues this season, up from five last year. There is plenty of social table tennis, a growing Junior group, and great coaching. Find out more from Richard on: [email protected].

Young Adults compete for medals

Young adults members enjoyed a smashing tournament with some excellent singles and doubles matches, and the weather holding out until the end.
It was great to welcome some new members to our courts and a guest player!
Big congratulations to Lizzy and James for winning first prize and runners up Caroline and Fred.

And the Henry Chittenden Rose Bowl goes to …

Heidi and Jane were the worthy winners of the annual Henry Chittenden Rose Bowl tournament – narrowly defeating Eleanor and Vijay, 4 games to 3.
Under a pleasingly dry sky, members took to the courts in partnerships aimed at making pairs evenly matched, with a fun though challenging sliding handicap system.  Numerous matches went to 4 games to 3, resulting in  lucky loser draws when 3 pairs had equal scores in one group!
Special mention to our semi finalists Jess and Trevor, Jackie and Fernando, and our plate consolation winners Gillie and Henrik.
The founder member of the Club after whom the Rose Bowl is named would surely have been glad to see such competitive matches!

Cue Ladies Snooker Night!

Some of GTC’s female members recently swapped their tennis racquets for snooker cues as our great new coach, Dave Harwood, guided them through the basics, ready for a few competitive frames.

“It was such a great vibe and really reminded me why I love doing this – it’s all about learning, sharing and growing together. Can’t wait to catch up again soon,” said Dave.

In 2024, the Club’s Snooker Room had a major refurb, and the 2 full-size snooker tables are maintained in excellent condition. All ages and skills are welcome, with good-value subscriptions including special senior citizen, junior and off-peak rates.

Fun and board games!

With the evenings drawing in, some of our members recently took to the games tables in our well stocked Bar and Lounge for a fun-filled mix of classic favourites and novel board games. There was plenty of laughter, strategy, and friendly competition though standard tennis scoring didn’t seem to quite work!
