We play all year round on our fantastic all-weather courts at Gunnersbury Triangle Club and a little snow doesn’t stop us! At a recent floodlight tournament, it was a full house on one of the coldest days of the year, and the tennis was competitive and fun. We’ve a very special 80% off adult tennis memberships until April, so come and try our courts and meet our members. There’s plenty of social play as well as team tennis. Email: [email protected]
GTC members, families and friends, and local residents recently raised a fantastic total of nearly £1900 for two great charities – Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
At our 1st Memorial Celebration Tennis Event for Cancer Research UK, there was some great tennis, table tennis, boules, a cake baking competition, brilliant raffle prizes and tabletop sale – all in such a good cause.
Less than a week later, there was another terrific turn out for a very enjoyable coffee morning and social tennis in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Money raised at the event equates to approximately 12 hours of much needed Macmillan nurse time for people with cancer.
Huge thanks to the organisers and to all those who baked delicious pies and cakes, donated great raffle prizes, and gave so generously.
Together, we can make such a difference for those affected by cancer.
On our annual Summer Finals Day, there was great tennis all round and some very tightly contested matches to entertain the crowd. Some things never change though – Pip won her 14th Ladies Singles title in a row, her 12th Ladies Doubles title and her name is on the Mixed Doubles trophy for the 10th time – go girl!
Ian & Graham made it 5 in a row in the Men’s Doubles whilst Rhodri (Men’s Singles), Bridget & Chris (Supervets) and Bridget & Tamlyn (Ladies’ Vets) successfully defended their titles.
Very well done to all the competitors and many congratulations to the winners.

Last week’s Big Night Out at GTC showed off the social side of our great sports club! An array of talented musicians, songwriters and singers, including some of our own multi-skilled members, lined up to play a wide range of music from country and western to classical – and much more.
“It was lovely to see the club full and busy and to hear the strains of music while we played our tennis match,” said one of our first team members.
Here’s a taster of the fantastic music on offer at Big Night Out – the last Thursday of every month.
Open mic at 8pm followed by guest appearances from the likes of Westbound Piccadilly and Pedwar. Come and enjoy the performances or book your place to play music, sing, recite poetry or tell stories on [email protected]
Move over Novak and Nick, and congratulations to Bridget, Chris, Gwen and Mario – worthy winners of GTC’s annual Wimbledon Tournament. With a 9.30am start on one of the hottest days of the year, 17 pairs took to the courts to compete for a trophy almost as impressive as the real thing at SW19. Some fiercely competitive matches followed, and all were conveniently completed in time for members to fill the Bar ready to watch that other Wimbledon final!
It was another sunny Sunday when members competed for the Paul Busfield Memorial Cup – a special tournament held each year in memory of Paul, a dear friend who gave so much of his time to GTC.
A total of 34 members signed up to play some ‘Fast Tennis’ – becoming a regular format for some of our tournaments: first pair to win four games, sudden death at deuce and a sneaky net serve special, which Paul would have approved of. The rather challenging wind made for some interesting and exciting play, and no pair finished without winning a game!
The overall winners of the beautiful cup were Ingrid and Ilan, runners up were Penny and Tim K, and in third place were Vanessa and Gerry. The Plate winners were Elaine and Dennis and in second place were Jo C and Stephen N.
Our younger members showed off some great tennis at GTC yesterday, with Middlesex girls league matches against Hurlingham and Brondesbury, a very popular Road to Wimbledon tournament for girls and boys aged 11-14, and a packed Family Fun Time.
It was really encouraging to see how much the Juniors playing in Road to Wimbledon improved during their five short set singles matches – some very promising players for the future.
Family Fun Time was so busy that Head Coach, Debbie, had to get creative to keep everyone entertained. Juniors vs parents proved to be the favourite game, closely followed by beat-the-coach.
GTC has a thriving Junior Tennis Section, with affordable membership packages for all ages including free membership for tennis tots under 4. Extensive coaching classes are available to get younger members off to a great start and build a love of tennis to last a lifetime.
Over 100 members and guests enjoyed a sunny Open Day at GTC last weekend, with social play, tennis coaching, table tennis and snooker proving popular all afternoon. There was a welcome return of Yoga and Pilates classes which we hope will be coming back on a regular basis, and plenty of children taking turns with mini-badminton and Finnish skittles on the bowling green.
GTC’s home bakers more than lived up to their reputation for delicious cakes and desserts and an army of willing volunteers welcomed guests, answered membership queries, ran the BBQ and served food.
For some great memories of a fantastic day, take a look at Robert’s lively video.
There’s still time for new members to get 10% off adult tennis subscriptions, and to find out about all GTC’s competitively priced sports packages contact [email protected]
Only a few weeks ago Pip Wallbank and Nikki Withers were battling it out to become GTC’s Ladies Winter Singles Champion. But on Saturday, they put their rivalry aside and paired up to beat Delainey Ackerman and Judith Loffhagen from Ealing Lawn Tennis Club to win the Middlesex Winter Postal Knockout 2022 Womens Doubles final, 6-2, 6-0.
Playing away at Virgin Active ChIswick Riverside was a little more formal than a home tournament, with an umpire and line judge and Middlesex Tennis’ Brenda Stewart to present the trophies.
Congratulations on a great win!
On one of the warmest Good Friday’s anyone could remember, GTC members and their families made the most of the sunshine in a series of friendly but competitive matches on our six beautifully maintained artificial grass courts.
In an extremely close Ladies Doubles tournament every pair won at least one match but congratulations to Champions, Liz and Philippa, closely followed by Gilpin and Jackie.
A new format of double elimination in both Main and Plate Events led to an endless stream of winners and, in the final event of the day, parents took on children for a friendly but competitive game of Chocolate Pudding followed by Doubles Match Play for all levels.
No Easter event would be complete without an egg hunt and, sure enough, players young and old discovered almost 100 small eggs kindly left by the Easter Bunny around our spacious grounds.
