All change on the Tennis Ladder this August

It’s the mid-way point in this Summer’s Tennis Ladder competition at Gunnersbury Triangle Club and it’s all change for those scrambling up the rungs and those continuing to join.

During August, each player has a wild card which they can use once to challenge a player more than the usual three places above them. So there’s no limit to how high people can climb in the next few weeks.

Big congratulations to those who reached the top of the Ladder in July and welcome to all of August’s new players. It’s never too late to join – you just need to be a GTC member. So why not take advantage of the Club’s great Summer membership deals – and make the most of the fantastic tennis weather.

Cue snooker and table tennis

Snooker and table tennis are back on track for members at Gunnersbury Triangle Club. As we continue to re-open our excellent facilities after the COVID-19 lockdown, members are dusting off their bats and cues and joining tennis members in getting back to regular play.

There are snooker and table tennis membership packages for all ages, with pro-rata discounts depending on when you join.

With our 10% discount off all adult tennis membership packages, there’s never been a better time to join – and become part of one of the friendliest sports clubs in West London.

Social tennis is back  at full strength

Social play is now back at Gunnersbury Triangle Club on both Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, with courts filling up with  Members who pre-book online to join in each session.

The current arrangements are enabling members to enjoy one of the most popular ways of meeting other players at the Club while sticking carefully to social distancing guidelines.

Drinks are available during and after play, outdoors from the recently re-opened bar.

As well as social play, new and old members have been making the most of the recent good weather, with plenty of singles and doubles play on our six all-weather, artificial grass courts. Summer Championship matches are underway and the Singles Ladder is as popular as ever.

Good luck everyone!

*Sunday social play is from 2pm and Wednesday social play is from 6pm

New Tennis Ladder is a big hit!

Dozens of members battled it out in an unprecedented number of singles matches at the Club in June – thanks to the new Tennis Ladder. There were plenty of ups and downs and almost everyone played a match during the month.

We were delighted to see some of our newest members signing up for the Ladder and wish them luck during July. Players can challenge anyone up to three places above them but if a player moves ‘out of reach’ after a match is organised, the game can still go ahead. The result will be valid and players can move places depending on who wins.

The Ladder remains open to new players all Summer – you just need to be a Club member. So check out our special discounted membership packages. There’s something for everyone including adults, juniors, seniors and families.

Of course, you don’t have to play competitively, there are plenty of opportunities for social play and group coaching at the Club so you can meet new people and soon become a regular on our six fantastic, all-weather, artificial grass courts.

Members welcome return of Sunday Social Tennis

Last Sunday saw the welcome return of Sunday Social Tennis, with an encouraging turn out of old and new members on a dry, sunny afternoon.

Sunday Social has always been popular with members as it’s a great opportunity to play with different people and catch up with friends. Social distancing requirements meant we had to forego the usual mouth watering tea and cakes but we hope it won’t be too long before that fine Club tradition can be reinstated.

Bridget & Marian organised the first Sunday Social after lockdown and it was lovely to welcome new members Milla & Tom B, and Katy H-J attending her first ever Social session. Roubina, Emin & Dennis emerged from isolation and it was great to see them back on court. They joined Chris D, John F, John B, Trevor, Alan C, Julianne, Riejet and Penny.

To find out more about all the advantages of Club membership, take a look at our Membership packages. There’s something for everyone, whatever your skills and experience.

We look forward to greeting more members, new and old, at future Sunday Social sessions.

The Summer Championships are back!

Summer at Gunnersbury Triangle Club wouldn’t be the same without the Summer Championships so we’re very pleased to add this annual competition to our calendar as we rapidly get back on track after the COVID lockdown.

Our six fabulous courts are in great condition for the multiple singles and doubles competitions. The Championships are open to all members including our Summer Special trial members and anyone who joins the Club and submits their entry before Sunday 28th June. If you’re new to the Club it’s a great way to meet other players.

The tournament will run from early July to the end of September and entry fees are just £3 per singles event and £5 per pair for each doubles event.

There are categories for everyone, whatever your skills and experience:

Mens Singles (Holder Ian Bailes)

A knockout event with the first round losers joining less experienced players in a Plate competition.

Ladies Singles (Holder Philippa Wallbank)

A knockout event with the first round losers joining less experienced players in a Plate competition.

Mixed Doubles (Holders Philippa Wallbank & Ian Bailes)

A knockout event with the first round losers joining less experienced players in a Plate competition.

Mens Doubles (Holders Ian Bailes & Graham Ford)

Ladies Doubles (Holders Jane Cooper & Philippa Wallbank)

Invitation Doubles (4th team players & below)

These 3 doubles competitions will be round robin unless we have 12 or more entries in which case the event will become a knockout.  In the round robin events the top team in each box will be the winner.  If there are 2 boxes in an event then the top team in each box will play a final.

Tennis Ladder

Let Battle Begin!
We have almost 50 members signed up to the new Singles Tennis Ladder and offer a big welcome to Ana, Gillie, Jonny and Jamie who signed up this week. Players can play other players upto three places above and must play their first match before July 1st (and mark an Asterix next to your name on the ladder) to avoid sliding to the bottom of their group.

The Ladder is in the clubhouse and new players are welcome all summer . Email Jack at – [email protected] for more information and to sign up.

Further updates

It is so exciting to be able to play tennis again and the glorious weather that we have had recently means that Gunnersbury Triangle is more attractive than ever.  Do come and enjoy it whilst the weather lasts. This is still England after all and the sunshine could disappear at any moment!

If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, please use the ClubSpark link you were sent in April so you can come and join those who are already enjoying being back on court.  As previously outlined, you can book courts for up to 2 hours per session through ClubSpark.

A reminder of our visitor policy:

As a member you may invite guests/visitors to play at the Club up to 6 (six) times but you must accompany them.  The same visitor can play up to 3 (three) occasions per subscription year, after which he/she will be encouraged to join. This applies to all sport sections of the Club.

If an existing member wishes to bring a guest, then they should log this on the visitor sheet which is located on the shelf above the ball box.  The visitor’s fee (£5 per person) should be posted in the box underneath the floodlights box.

When using the courts, please continue to follow the LTA social distancing and hygiene guidance.

Many of you have asked what we are doing about tennis subscriptions and this will be top of the agenda at the next meeting of the Management Committee on 2 June.  I hope to be able to communicate the way forward shortly thereafter.

Social, table tennis, karate and snooker membership fees will be announced once we are able to open the clubhouse.

Bridget Wake

Membership Secretary

Tennis section open

We are very excited to be able to open the tennis courts again for play from Wednesday 13th May, albeit with some restrictions. Singles play (with anyone) or doubles only being allowed if you are all in the same household.

In accordance with government and LTA guidelines, we ask members to adhere to the following –

·         Only fully paid up members from April 2020 may use the courts.

·         All courts have to be pre-booked using Clubspark and are bookable for up to 2 hours a day.

·         Social distancing must remain in place at all times.

·         Please leave the court 5 mins before your time slot ends and do not leave any rubbish/belongings behind.

·         Toilets can be used if necessary. Bring your own hand sanitiser if possible.

·         Floodlight tokens can be obtained from [email protected]

We have put a time limit on playing at the moment, as we imagine that the courts will be busy and to help prevent too many people being at the club at one time.  We ask that members consider others and if we see that there is room to increase playing time, we will do that.

If you want to use the courts, you must have paid your membership fees.  You should all have received a renewal link via Clubspark, but if you would like this to be resent or have any other queries please contact the membership secretary:

 [email protected].

The security code for the gates has been updated and will be sent to paid-up members in a separate email.  Please note the main gate (via the carpark) has been damaged so please do not try to force entry.

Anyone wishing to have coaching please contact the coaches direct.

Do not come to the club if you are feeling unwell, or have been unwell within the last 7 days

Happy tennis!

On Behalf of the Management Committee.
